Florida State University (FSU) is reportedly considering leaving the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) following their exclusion from the College Football Playoff. The CFP snub has sparked renewed discussions about FSU's future in the ACC, with the school's fan and donor base expressing discontent. FSU has called a special Board of Trustees meeting to discuss potential actions, including challenging the ACC's Grant of Rights (GOR) agreement. The outcome of the meeting is expected to lead to a legal filing. The possibility of FSU's departure from the ACC has generated speculation about where the school might land if it breaks free from the GOR. Various opinions and concerns have emerged regarding FSU's potential move and its impact on college football.

Fast forward three years. It’s December of 2026. FSU waltzes to the CFP table with big 9-3 energy, gets left out again, and finally realizes they left the ACCs automatic playoff spot because they simply couldn’t admit they weren’t that good of an undefeated team in 2023.
🚨🏈EMERGENCY POD🏈🚨 Florida State may sue so it can leave the ACC and set off another round of realignment. We try to answer all the questions here. Plus: a Taco Bell Christmas Party goes off the rails. @RossDellenger @SandersonRadio @ByPatForde https://t.co/fvkhazzWgl
Everyone: But if you leave an undefeated FSU out of the Playoff, it’ll just accelerate their departure from an ACC they’re already unhappy in and just further consolidate power in 2 conferences. 😭 Playoff Committee: https://t.co/eR30TemKzb
reports out there fsu, clemson would leave acc for big 12. be careful what u wish for.

One of the reasons that Florida State’s College Football Playoff snub infuriated me so much? Because I saw where this was going. From Dec. 3: “I worry that the CFP Committee just signed the death certificate for the ACC.” 🔈: https://t.co/ToWaAvjCwi https://t.co/o1Fhunuc60
The consternation has reached a tipping point, with Florida State on the brink of what would be a historic challenge to what multiple sources told On3 appears to be an “ironclad” ACC grant-of-rights agreement. https://t.co/UqKzS3FCLk
Florida State looks poised to turn to a court to ask the all-important question: Just how "ironclad" is the ACC's grant of rights? Disgruntled Florida State is about to find out. Analysis from @EricPrisbell: https://t.co/UOBDsQO23Q https://t.co/OkrGT7VkOH

Florida State exploring an ACC exit had college football fans making so many jokes https://t.co/vOQYT02kX2 https://t.co/fnuyEy8IbI
After your 13-0 conference champion gets snubbed out of a playoff appearance, every school in the conference and the conference itself should’ve been vocal. You know why they weren’t? Beyond petty FSU grievances, they are weak and feckless and unserious about competing.
My advice to Jim Phillips and the other ACC presidents on FSU would be: let them cry it out. Where are they going to go? The Big 12? Independent? Cool. Whatever. Don’t concede to them.
Our @DanWetzel tries to answer the big question: Where the hell would FSU go if it does break free of the ACC’s GoR? The Power 2 leagues have expressed no real interest. But… “Everything changes if schools are truly available,” a B1G source tells Dan. https://t.co/pIIbprbuAN
The Florida St. situation has a long way to go but where the ‘Noles land ~if~ they get out of the ACC GOR could get interesting. Huge brand obviously, but the noise those in Tallahassee have made the last year-ish has also privately rubbed plenty in college sports the wrong way.

I think FSU was screwed out of the CFP this year. I also find it hilarious that they were crowing about needing a bigger cut of ACC revenue BEFORE the 13-0 season because they’re a “premiere” ACC program—that hadn’t won the conference in 9 years prior to this season.
It feels like Florida State (and maybe Clemson) think once they show they can get out of the GOR that other conferences will be lining up to take them. But I’m not sure that’s right. https://t.co/tFQKz75zoP

Best case scenario for FSU: destabilized ACC leads to the football-only league breakaway in CFB. But that would mean all 50-60 teams -- or whatever the number -- must agree to share media rights. That might be more difficult than breaking the Grant of Rights.
*UCF goes undefeated and misses CFP* UCF: We are going to claim a championship FSU: Wow what a bunch of losers *FSU goes undefeated and misses CFP* FSU: We are going to literally blow up and potentially ruin all of College Football
Meeting will be streamed live at 10. If lawyers can pull off an FSU departure from the ACC and escape the suffocating confines of the conference's grant of rights agreement, that would be something https://t.co/cWjX0QvZ54
