The debate over whether Florida State University (FSU) deserved a spot in the College Football Playoff (CFP) has intensified following recent games. Some commentators argue that Georgia's performance, especially considering they were without some of their best players, has proven they were more deserving, while others believe that the committee made an error in ranking Georgia behind FSU. The discussion also touches on whether the CFP committee's decision to exclude FSU was justified based on the team's performance in the Orange Bowl, with some referring to the FSU demolition as evidence. There are contrasting opinions, with some stating that FSU's exclusion was correct, and others arguing that Georgia, not FSU, was the team that was unfairly left out of the playoffs after winning 29 in a row and losing by only 3 in the SECCG, resulting in a drop of 5 spots. The argument revolves around the criteria of 'best' versus 'most deserving' teams for the playoff spots, with some pointing out that the absence of key player Travis from FSU was a significant factor.
Well, suffice it to say the College Football Playoff committee made the right call in excluding Florida State.
I'd like to put it on the record that no matter the final score of the Orange Bowl, Florida State should've been in the CFP, and Georgia is the best team in the country. Which is why the "deserving vs best" argument holds no weight with the four teams chosen.
Can’t tell me UGA isn’t one of the 4 best teams in the country.
The CFP committee didn't pick Florida State because it believed that without Travis, the Seminoles were not close to being one of the four best teams in the country. So people should in fact point to this Orange Bowl result as strong evidence FSU's exclusion was justified. https://t.co/DVXCMjwR1x
The college football playoff committee didn’t screw Florida State, they screwed Georgia. There is no way on earth Georgia isn’t one of the four best college football teams in America.
Anyone want to argue Florida State was playoff quality? https://t.co/Rxar8BDtiD
Should FSU be in the college football playoffs? 😂
The CFP committee did leave out one of the best four teams. Georgia.
It was always Georgia. Still can't believe so many people tried to legitimately argue FSU "deserved" a spot in the playoffs. They got exactly what they deserved. https://t.co/p2advDYGOm
Looks like the #CFBPlayoff committee got it right after all? #FSU https://t.co/fPlH16CZWl
FSU getting mollywhopped by UGA (a playoff-caliber team) validates the CFP committee’s reasoning for leaving them out: players matter, and make the difference in football games. And they are charged with picking the 4 best teams, not most deserving. https://t.co/a515Fbc1BQ
So, yeah. NCAA playoff committee absolutely made the right call https://t.co/OHy0FPMcfY
Anyone using today’s performance by this depleted roster to claim FSU “didn’t belong” in the CFP is making a bad-faith argument.
If you really think this FSU demolition affirms the committee’s decision to exclude them from their rightfully earned spot in the playoff, then you have to consider 2017 UCF the National Champion…which I don’t.
No, this is not proof that the CFP committee got it right by leaving Florida State out. Don't start with that nonsense.
Let's be honest - the committee left FSU out of the playoff because they were afraid of a game like this happening in the semifinals.
FSU got screwed over, but Georgia got it worse. Back-to-back National Champions win 29 in a row and lose by 3 in the SECCG and they drop 5 spots? They are STILL one of the 4 BEST teams. The #CFBPlayoff committee got it wrong. https://t.co/GwDvYBm9bY
There is no way you’re telling me this Georgia team isn’t one of the top 4 teams.

Can't believe they didn't want this Florida State team in the playoff! https://t.co/34RSCQTOMZ
I wonder if @FSUFootball still thinks it should be in the Playoff?
The Orange Bowl proves that FSU deserved a chance to get blown out in the CFP.
I do not like Florida State, but people pointing to this Orange Bowl result to justify their exclusion from the CFP is incredibly annoying.
If you can’t beat Georgia with most of your best players unavailable, you don’t deserve to be in the College Football Playoff. Sorry, Florida State, but those are the rules.
You could argue Georgia being ranked behind Florida State was much more of an egregious error by the playoff committee than slotting Alabama over Florida State
Which team deserved to be in the College Football Playoff more: Georgia or FSU? https://t.co/QxnFY0hIso
