The question of whether Jonathan Kuminga and Andrew Wiggins can play together has been raised, despite their two-plus years together. Concerns include their below-average passing and rebounding, lack of play-making off the dribble, and defensive communication issues. The pair's potential to shore up the Warriors' perimeter defense has not materialized. Observers have noted the need for better off-ball screening, defensive communication, and leadership around Kuminga. It is suggested that both players require additional ball movers and are considered poor communicators. The idea of Wiggins and Kuminga playing together is viewed as better in theory than in practice.
Thoughts on this game: -Okay, Wiggins and Kuminga can't play together without at least two ball movers by their side. They're also both terrible communicators. Kuminga needs to be led, and Wiggins is no leader. Since you can't start Podz over Klay, the idea of Wiggins/Kumingaโฆ
The idea of Wiggins and Kuminga is much better than the actual Wiggins and Kuminga together https://t.co/LcaVF0ZLID https://t.co/pCP30RuGnL
At least Kuminga is hyper-aggressive on offense when he needs to be, something Wiggins just doesn't have in his blood. The contrast is insane, given that they're both incredible athletes.
Kuminga needs leadership around him. Wiggins is a connector, not a leader. I think the pairing issue lies there. One of those guys has to facilitate, set great screens, and communicate defensively - none of those things are their strengths, nor did it happen. Already on thin ice.
Wiggins and Kuminga don't communicate on the switch and give up an open 3 to Quickley. Why are they always so unprepared defensively? How do these two still not how to communicate with each other on switches?
Well this awful start certainly isn't going to convince the coaching staff that Kuminga and Wiggins together is a good idea, but the game is very young. Kuminga and Wiggins have to be better off-ball screeners for the offense to have more spacing and look better in general.
Jonathan Kuminga and Andrew Wiggins are the Warriors two biggest wings โ and their best theoretical chance to shore up a leaky perimeter defense. But they havenโt worked together. @ShamsCharania and @anthonyVslater on the disconnect: https://t.co/9zj3q0sOrz https://t.co/EAwwsNrJUs
Need to see more of this from Wiggins and Kuminga. They are too athletic to not be averaging close to a block per game. https://t.co/NNw8qbUPjt
Can Wiggins/Kuminga play together? Seriously, they can try. But both are below average passers and rebounders, neither can play-make off dribble consistently. Each can excel as an on-ball defender. But together defensively, big drop-off when you need one to guard off-ball.
I'm perplexed as to why the question of whether or not Kuminga/Wiggins can play together has even come up? Why now? Warriors already re-upped Wiggins year-plus ago. You telling me nobody thought of that till now?
There's no way this is the first time we're wondering if Kuminga and Wiggins can play together, right? Right? I mean, they've been together for two-plus years ... Hello?
Can Kuminga and Wiggins play together? We're really asking that question now? Who didn't ask that question BEFORE you gave Wiggins that extension?
