The Dallas Mavericks have successfully acquired Daniel Gafford from the Washington Wizards, adding much-needed size to their roster. The Mavericks had been interested in Gafford since last season and initially engaged in discussions with Washington about Kyle Kuzma before shifting their focus to Gafford. In addition to Gafford, Dallas has also secured PJ Washington, marking a significant bolstering of their frontcourt. As part of the trade, Dallas is sending Charlotte a lightly-protected 2027 first-round pick and receiving two second-rounders. Furthermore, the Mavericks have managed to keep Josh Green out of the trade. Washington will receive the higher of Oklahoma City’s or the Clippers’ 2024 first-round picks via Dallas, along with Richaun Holmes, in exchange for Gafford. This move represents the Wizards' success in securing an outright first-round pick, something they were unable to do in previous trades involving Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis. Additionally, Dallas was aggressive in trying to find frontcourt help and has also acquired Oklahoma City's second-least favorable first-round pick in the 2024 NBA Draft to send to Washington.
