Researchers have discovered that supermassive black holes are altering the direction of their powerful jets, impacting their galaxies. Using NSF’s Very Long Baseline Array and NASA’s Chandra X-ray Observatory, scientists revealed this cosmic phenomenon. In 2022, astronomers identified the active galaxy NGC 1068 as a likely neutrino producer, with growing evidence pointing to the dusty hidden black hole at its center as the true neutrino factory. Additionally, two teams using data from IceCube, the world’s premier neutrino observatory in Antarctica, have independently identified Seyfert galaxies as likely neutrino producers.
