A federal jury weighing sex-trafficking allegations against music mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs informed the court late Tuesday that it had reached decisions on four of the five counts after roughly 13 hours of deliberations spread over two days, delivering a partial verdict in the high-profile case.
U.S. District Judge Arun Subramanian said the panel was unanimous on two counts of sex trafficking and two counts of interstate transportation to engage in prostitution. Jurors remain split on the lead racketeering-conspiracy charge, which carries a potential life sentence, and will reconvene at 9 a.m. EDT Wednesday to continue deliberations.
Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty. Prosecutors contend he leveraged his business empire for two decades to coerce former girlfriends into drug-fueled, days-long sexual encounters with paid male escorts—conduct they say amounts to both sex trafficking and a racketeering enterprise. Defense lawyers counter that the encounters were consensual and accuse the government of criminalizing the entertainer’s private life.
The seven-week trial featured 34 witnesses, including R&B singer Casandra "Cassie" Ventura and rapper Kid Cudi, as well as hotel surveillance video of a 2016 altercation. A conviction on any sex-trafficking count carries a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison, while a racketeering conviction could result in life behind bars.
🇺🇸 The trial of the #PDiddy rapper is coming to an end: the jury is continuing its deliberations on Wednesday after reaching an agreement the day before on a verdict, without announcing it, on counts of sex trafficking and transporting people for the purpose of prostitution ⤵️
