Tigers, Dodgers Lead with Three Starters in 2025 MLB All-Star Game

Major League Baseball on Wednesday unveiled the fan-elected position-player starters for the July 15 All-Star Game at Atlanta’s Truist Park, with the Detroit Tigers and Los Angeles Dodgers topping all clubs at three selections apiece.

Detroit second baseman Gleyber Torres and outfielders Javier Báez and Riley Greene will open for the American League, while Los Angeles sends designated hitter Shohei Ohtani, first baseman Freddie Freeman and catcher Will Smith to the National League lineup. It is the Tigers’ first trio of elected starters since 2007 and the Dodgers’ first since 1980.

Rounding out the AL starters are Seattle catcher Cal Raleigh, Toronto first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Cleveland third baseman José Ramírez, rookie shortstop Jacob Wilson of Oakland, Baltimore designated hitter Ryan O’Hearn and New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge, whose league-leading vote total secured his spot in an earlier phase of balloting.

The NL infield features Arizona’s Ketel Marte at second, San Diego’s Manny Machado at third and New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor. Atlanta’s Ronald Acuña Jr. joins Chicago Cubs duo Kyle Tucker and Pete Crow-Armstrong in the outfield, with Ohtani retaining the designated-hitter role he clinched last week.

Freeman earns his ninth All-Star nod and fifth start, while Guerrero captures a fourth fan-elected start. Wilson becomes only the second rookie shortstop ever voted into an All-Star Game, edging Kansas City’s Bobby Witt Jr. by 52 % to 48 %.

Earlier in the day, Greene underscored his selection by belting a pair of three-run homers and driving in six runs during Detroit’s 10-0 victory over Washington, giving the 24-year-old 21 home runs and a league-best 69 RBIs before the break.

Pitchers and reserve position players, chosen through the player ballot and the Commissioner’s Office, will be announced on July 6.
