Jared Jones delivered an outstanding performance for the Pittsburgh Pirates against the New York Mets. In just 5 innings, he allowed only 1 hit, 0 runs, and struck out 7 batters with an impressive 50 strikes out of 59 pitches. Jones' dominance was highlighted by his high strike percentage and low number of balls thrown. Despite his stellar outing, Jones was pulled after 5 innings due to a predetermined pitch count set by manager Derek Shelton, who emphasized the importance of managing Jones' workload to protect the young pitcher.
The one and only @euqubud getting a shoutout on the SNY broadcast while they were discussing Jared Jones being pulled, yesterday, after just 59 pitches. The piece: https://t.co/tvUBnu1PAk https://t.co/cCVTlJIVvi
Shelton when asked how hard it was to not send Jones back out for the sixth inning: “It’s extremely hard. But you know, it’s something where we have to stick to our process a little bit. Again, I understand how that’s frustrating to people, but again, this kid is really…

Shelton on how Jones reacted upon learning he would only be going five innings tonight: “He took it like a pro. I talked to him about it when we took him out, just said ‘hey, this is the situation.’ He understands it. He understands where he’s at and where we’re at. He’s very…
Another quote from Shelton on pulling Jones after five innings: “He’s thrown I think 91, 85 and 80 [pitches], so we knew that the first time he went on five that we were going to back him down. This kid is really important to us, as anybody that watched will see. It was one of…
Derek Shelton said the decision to pull Jones was predetermined. “He was throwing five. We had a pitch count on him today. It was his first time on five.”

I'm sure Derek Shelton and the Pirates have a perfectly good reason for pulling Jared Jones after five shutout innings, 59 pitches and 50 strikes, but boy it would have been fun to see him go a bit longer. The Mets, who mustered one hit off Jones, can't be upset to see him go.
Final line for Jones: 5.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K. He threw 59 pitches. 50 strikes. 15 whiffs.
