Michael Wacha has opted out of his contract with the Padres. The Padres have given qualifying offers to Blake Snell and Josh Hader. Other players who received qualifying offers include Shohei Ohtani, Aaron Nola, Cody Bellinger, Matt Chapman, and Sonny Gray. Players who did not receive qualifying offers include Teoscar Hernandez, Jorge Soler, Rhys Hoskins, and Mitch Garver. It is expected that none of the players who received qualifying offers will accept them and instead enter free agency to sign more lucrative contracts.
