New York Mets shortstop Francisco Lindor has been voted the National League’s starting shortstop for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game, securing his first career start in the midsummer exhibition and the franchise’s first at the position since Jose Reyes in 2007.
The selection is Lindor’s fifth All-Star appearance overall and his first since 2019, when he was with Cleveland. Entering Wednesday’s nightcap against Milwaukee, the 30-year-old was batting .255 with a .324 on-base percentage and .442 slugging, along with 15 home runs, 43 RBIs and 13 stolen bases, despite an 8-for-60 skid that had led manager Carlos Mendoza to drop him from the leadoff spot.
Lindor celebrated the announcement by homering off Brewers rookie Jacob Misiorowski moments after teammate Brandon Nimmo’s grand slam, highlighting a rare offensive surge for a Mets club that had lost 14 of its previous 17 games. He is the only Mets player selected by fan vote; teammates Pete Alonso and Juan Soto remain candidates for reserve roles when the full rosters are finalized.
