The New York Mets faced criticism for their handling of a situation with Rhys Hoskins, where they waited until late in the game to throw at him. Despite some attempts to retaliate, commentators like Darling felt it was too little, too late. The Mets were seen as lacking toughness and proper response to a previous incident involving Hoskins.
"How they handled that on Saturday... was a little confusing" @TimBritton weighs in on the @JeffMcNeil805 vs @rhyshoskins altercation over the weekend. ▶️ https://t.co/OvMEHdDce0 https://t.co/OrQE4Xk9cP
It's "So #Mets" that Rhys Hoskins kicked their ass today after mocking them yesterday, and then Ramirez gets tossed ... Seen this act way too many times .... https://t.co/rJeCCftVzo
Imagine being the Mets and waiting until the guy has put up 4 RBI on you and the game is out of reach to THEN finally throw at him to "make up" for yesterday lol. I'm old school, I like the unwritten rules of the game but the timing looks pathetic lol. #MILvsNYM
At least Yohan Ramirez showed some fight by throwing at Hoskins. But have to defer to Darling again who said "it's about two hours too late." Said the time to send the message about Friday's slide was with knockdown pitch in 1st inning. "Not after a guy beats your brains in."
Mets look soft as Hoskins piles on. You know it's an issue when Darling talked openly about missed opportunity for payback. Careful not to call for beanball but "you can still send a message to say hey listen, we recognize what happened yesterday. It's not going to happen again."
