The San Francisco Giants have finalized a significant move in their offseason strategy by signing free-agent slugger Jorge Soler to a three-year contract worth $42 million. The deal includes a $9 million signing bonus, with annual salaries of $7 million in 2024, and $13 million for both 2025 and 2026. Additionally, Soler has committed to donating $80k to the Giants Community this year and $65k in both 2025 and 2026. To accommodate Soler on the 40-man roster, the Giants placed RHP Austin Warren on the 60-day injured list as he recovers from right elbow UCL surgery. Soler's addition is expected to bring considerable power to the Giants' lineup, with expectations of him primarily serving as the designated hitter and potentially occupying the cleanup spot. Manager Bob Melvin has expressed enthusiasm for Soler's arrival, noting it has created a positive vibe in the clubhouse and anticipating his power to invigorate the Giants' lineup. The signing has positioned the Giants as the second-highest spenders this offseason, trailing only behind Los Angeles. Despite the significant acquisition, Farhan Zaidi, the Giants' president of baseball operations, has hinted at the possibility of further additions, though he acknowledged any more signings are unlikely given the current stage of the offseason. Michael Conforto's reflections on what Soler will bring to the lineup further highlight the optimistic outlook for the team's performance.

Farhan Zaidi had a funny way of informing Logan Webb that the Giants signed a new player. Jorge Soler brings the fear factor to a lineup that lacked it. But is there another move still to come? https://t.co/Te5s9zRK7i

Much more on the Jorge Soler signing and how it came about; the Giants' offseason spending and will there be more?; and will SF have its first 30-HR hitter since Bonds? "Bringing in a guy like Soler, that drought is in trouble.” https://t.co/ikvr4LoyJb @sfchronicle
Farhan Zaidi downplayed signing more free agents: “You never rule anything out. Whether it's now or May or June or whatever, but you know, at this point, just where the calendar is it obviously makes any further additions unlikely, but, again, we never close the door.”
Bob Melvin thinks Soler will be in the cleanup spot and DH every day but could see a little time in the OF. He jokingly says he’d like to “bubble wrap him” up until the start of the season. Melvin thinks some of the injuries Soler dealt with in Miami were to do with the turf.
