The San Francisco Giants have acquired infielder/outfielder Otto Lopez from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations. The move required the Giants to designate outfielder T.J. Hopkins for assignment to make room for Lopez on the 40-man roster. Otto Lopez, who participated in last year's World Baseball Classic representing Canada, was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays to accommodate the addition of right-handed pitcher Yariel Rodriguez to their roster. Lopez, born in the Dominican Republic and raised in Montreal, signed with the Blue Jays at the age of 17. After seven years in the farm system and accumulating only 10 MLB plate appearances, he has been traded. It was also noted that Lopez still has a minor league option, which will provide the Giants with additional flexibility for their opening-day roster.
Small but significant correction to some of what’s been reported: Otto Lopez, whom the Giants acquired this morning, still has a minor league option. That’ll help a lot with the opening-day roster flexibility.
The #BlueJays DFA'd IF Otto Lopez to make room on 40-man for RH Yariel Rodriguez. Today O.L. contract sold to Giants. Lopez born in D.R. raised in Montreal signed by Jays at 17. Career 10 MLB plate appearances after 7 yrs. on farm has now been passed on IF depth chart by others

Here is my first Braves Opening Day roster projection. Spoiler alert: Reynoldo Lopez will be given a chance to do more than just stretch out during Spring Training. https://t.co/UDMMvN9yka
