The Toronto Blue Jays edged the Los Angeles Angels 4–3 in 11 innings on Saturday, extending their season-best winning streak to seven games and retaining first place in the American League East. Rookie right fielder Addison Barger delivered the decisive hit, lining a two-out single to right off reliever Ryan Zeferjahn to score the automatic runner and send 37,269 fans at Rogers Centre home happy.

George Springer powered the offence earlier with a 413-foot, two-run homer—his fifth in as many games and 16th of the season—while Vladimir Guerrero Jr. returned from a sore foot to collect three singles. Toronto twice erased deficits after Jo Adell’s sacrifice fly put the Angels ahead 2-1; Nolan Schanuel’s seventh-inning single forced extras before Barger’s second RBI of the day settled the contest.

Three-time Cy Young winner Max Scherzer, making his third start since a thumb injury, worked four innings of two-run ball, striking out four and at one point fanning the side on nine pitches. Braydon Fisher threw two scoreless frames for the win. Earlier, Barger cut down Mike Trout at the plate with a throw from right, preserving a first-inning tie.

Toronto, now 51-38, can complete the sweep on Sunday when right-hander Kevin Gausman (6-6, 4.18 ERA) faces Angels left-hander Tyler Anderson (2-5, 4.12).
