Dave McCarty, a former Boston Red Sox first baseman and outfielder who was part of the 2004 World Series championship team, has passed away at the age of 54. McCarty died following a cardiac event in Oakland, California. He had recently attended a reunion at Fenway Park earlier this month to celebrate the 2004 championship team. McCarty played in the MLB for 11 seasons with seven different teams and was remembered for his contributions on and off the field. He is survived by his wife, Monica, and their children, Reid and Maxine. McCarty was named college player of the year in 1991 after batting .420 with 24 homers at Stanford. He played for the Red Sox from 2003 to 2005 and notably hit a walkoff homer against the Mariners.
