US President Donald Trump said on 1 July that Israel has accepted the “necessary conditions” to finalise a 60-day ceasefire with Hamas in the Gaza Strip. In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote that his envoys held a "long and productive" meeting with Israeli officials and that the proposal will now be delivered to Hamas by mediators from Qatar and Egypt.

Trump described the offer as a "final proposal" and urged the Palestinian militant group to agree, warning that "it will not get better—IT WILL ONLY GET WORSE." The envisioned two-month truce would be used to negotiate a broader settlement to end a conflict that has raged since Hamas’s 7 October 2023 assault on Israel, which killed about 1,200 people and led to a war that Gaza’s health authorities say has claimed more than 56,000 Palestinian lives.

Details of the ceasefire conditions were not disclosed, and Hamas has yet to issue a formal response. The announcement comes ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s scheduled meeting with Trump at the White House on 7 July, where the ceasefire plan and a possible roadmap for a longer-term resolution are expected to dominate the agenda.
