State Department Says U.S. Prepared for Potential July 4 Iranian Attacks

U.S. State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce said on Thursday that federal agencies are preparing for the possibility of Iranian-linked terror attacks timed to coincide with Independence Day celebrations on 4 July. "We are ready for it," Bruce told reporters, adding that intelligence and law-enforcement bodies have been coordinating to bolster security at public events nationwide.

While Bruce did not disclose specific threat details, she cited heightened concern over individuals with suspected ties to Iran who have entered the country in recent years. The State Department is working with the Department of Homeland Security, the FBI and local authorities to increase monitoring of large gatherings, enhance screening at points of entry and share real-time intelligence in the lead-up to the holiday.
