Balochistan, a province in Pakistan, has experienced a significant surge in violence with multiple attacks reported, including an explosion following firing in Kech district where a Frontier Crops post was targeted by unidentified persons. In total, there have been 10 more explosions and firing in different areas of the province. The Pakistani Taliban (TTP) reported an increase in attacks to 75 in January 2024, up from 60 the previous month, affecting 14 districts. As the province gears up for elections scheduled for February 8th, at least one person has been killed and five others injured. Despite the violence, the Election Commission of Pakistan has stated that the electoral process will continue. The commission has also summoned national security officials to address the rise in election-related violence, with 67 incidents reported since January 2024, 36 of which are linked to militants. The government reaffirmed that the general elections will proceed as planned.
