IRGC Navy Warns Foreign Forces Threaten Persian Gulf Security, Marking Persian Gulf Day

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Navy Commander, Rear Admiral Alireza Tangsiri, has stated that the presence of foreign forces in the Persian Gulf undermines regional security. Speaking in Bandar Abbas, he emphasized the strategic importance of the Persian Gulf, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, noting that instability there has serious international implications for the global economy. Tangsiri criticized foreign powers for seeking to establish an unauthorized presence and sell weapons in the region.

Iran marks Persian Gulf Day on April 30, commemorating the 1622 victory and liberation of its southern shores from Portuguese colonial occupation 400 years ago. The day, which also marks its 20th anniversary in the Iranian calendar, is celebrated as a symbol of the region's historical and cultural significance, with the name 'Persian Gulf' having been used for 1,500 years. Various Iranian officials and embassies worldwide issued statements to reaffirm the name and importance of the Persian Gulf.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei described Persian Gulf National Day as a symbol of coexistence, interaction, and civilization-building throughout history. He highlighted the day's role in reviewing the common history of the region and promoting convergence and good neighborliness among regional countries. The Persian Gulf is recognized as a birthplace of ancient culture and continues to stand as a symbol of peace and friendship.
