Social-media posts on 6–7 July claim that Salman Sima, an Iranian dissident and former political prisoner, was physically assaulted several times during an Ashura gathering in downtown Toronto. Videos circulating online appear to show a group of men pushing and hitting the activist as he displays Iran’s pre-revolution lion-and-sun flag.
Users who shared the footage say the assailants were supporters of Iran’s Islamic regime. No injuries requiring hospital treatment have been reported, and Canadian authorities have not yet issued a public statement on the incident.
