Internet connectivity in Iran dropped sharply on Saturday night, with real-time network measurements from the London-based NetBlocks observatory showing nationwide availability at roughly 15 % of ordinary levels, effectively cutting about 85 % of users off from the global web.

The disruption follows a series of smaller outages reported since late June. On 1–2 July, Communications Minister Sattar Hashemi said investigations by “relevant authorities” indicated that earlier interruptions were the result of “organised cyberattacks from outside the country,” adding that security and intelligence agencies were handling the issue with “special considerations.”

Saturday’s blackout comes only weeks after authorities imposed telecom restrictions during a 12-day conflict with Israel. While Iran has periodically limited internet access during domestic unrest, officials rarely attribute the interruptions to foreign attacks. The government has not provided a timetable for full restoration, and no group has claimed responsibility for the alleged cyberactivity.
