Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, wanted by the ICC, has declared that the ongoing military operations in Gaza are aimed at forcing the displacement of Palestinians. Speaking to the Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee, Netanyahu stated that Israel is 'destroying more and more homes' in Gaza, leaving residents with 'nowhere to return to.' He suggested that the only expected outcome of these actions is the desire of Gazans to emigrate out of the Strip, with the main challenge being the reluctance of other countries to accept them.
Netanyahu also addressed the issue of humanitarian aid distribution, indicating that aid would only be provided to those who agree not to return to their homes. This policy has been criticized by human rights groups as a form of collective punishment and forced transfer, potentially violating international law.
In addition to the displacement strategy, Netanyahu mentioned that the U.S. has shown interest in the future of Gaza, but Israel is not currently planning to establish settlements there. This statement was met with a suggestion from far-right MK Limor Son Har-Melech to bring Jews from the United States to settle in Gaza, aiming to achieve dual objectives.
Netanyahu's comments have sparked widespread condemnation, with groups like the Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor labeling the actions as 'modern-day ethnic cleansing' and calling for sanctions and legal action against Israeli leaders. More than 1.9 million Palestinians have already been displaced, with many sheltering in makeshift tents or rubble. Netanyahu also told representatives of the War Wounded Forum that there will be no Islamic caliphate in Gaza, neither of Hamas nor of the Palestinian Authority.
Addressing the foreign affairs committee, Netanyahu said Israeli forces are “destroying more and more homes” and that the “only inevitable outcome will be the wish of Gazans to emigrate outside of the Gaza Strip”
