Houthis Launch Hypersonic Ballistic Missile and Yafa Drone Strike on Israel’s Ramat David Airbase and Ashkelon, Claim Air Defense Failure

The Houthi movement, also known as Ansar Allah, has claimed responsibility for multiple missile attacks targeting Israeli sites. On April 30, they reported striking a vital target in the occupied city of Ashkelon using a Yafa-type drone. On May 2, the Houthis launched a ballistic missile aimed at northern Israel, specifically targeting the Ramat David Airbase near Haifa. The Israeli military acknowledged attempts to intercept the missile but stated that the results were still under review.

The Houthis asserted that Israel's air defense systems failed to intercept the missile and described the attack as a continuation of their operations until the cessation of aggression and lifting of the blockade on Gaza. Additionally, the Houthis claimed the missile used in the attack was hypersonic. This marks the first time the group has publicly declared an attack on the Ramat David Airbase.
