Houthis Claim Air Defenses Drove Off Israeli Jets Over Yemen

Yemen’s Houthi-aligned armed forces said late Sunday that their air-defence units had confronted Israeli fighter jets attempting to strike targets in the country. Spokesman Brig. Gen. Yahya Saree said the engagement took place over the Red Sea port city of Hudaydah.

According to Saree, Yemeni forces launched a “large volley” of domestically produced surface-to-air missiles that forced about 10 Israeli aircraft to leave Yemen’s airspace before they could carry out attacks. He said the barrage caused “significant confusion” among Israeli pilots and command centers.

The Houthi statement did not specify casualties or damage, and the claims could not be independently verified. Israel has not responded publicly to the allegation.
