The family of Israeli soldier Matan Angrest, held hostage in Gaza since his abduction on October 7, 2023, has released new video footage documenting his kidnapping. The footage, filmed by Hamas and recovered by Israeli forces, shows Angrest being dragged and beaten by a mob after being captured from his tank unit in Nahal Oz, along with three fellow soldiers who were killed and taken into Gaza.
A drone image of the lynching was also released. According to his family, recent testimonies from released hostages who encountered Angrest in captivity reveal that his medical condition is significantly worse than previously reported. He is reportedly suffering from open burns, infections, fever, clear signs of torture including electric shocks, chronic asthma, respiratory issues, and full-body infections.
Matan Angrest's mother, Anat Angrest, stated that after 611 days in captivity, she was compelled to watch the full video for the first time. She said the family discovered a gap between official reports and his true condition and noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was previously unaware of the severity of Angrest's injuries. The family released the footage in a bid to secure his release and to highlight the severity of his injuries.
Matan Angrest's mother released this heart-wrenching statement:
“For 611 days, I avoided watching the full video showing the beginning of the lynching of my beloved son — one soldier against dozens of terrorists. Last night, I forced myself to watch. We have no other choice.
