Mexico’s President Sheinbaum Enacts April 30 Law Banning 3D-Printed Guns, Tactical Accessories, Armored Vehicles with 30-Year Penalties

The Mexican government, under President Claudia Sheinbaum, has enacted new reforms to the Federal Law on Firearms and Explosives aimed at tightening control over firearms. The reforms, approved by the Senate on April 30, 2025, prohibit and sanction the possession, manufacture, and use of three-dimensional (3D) printed firearms, artisanal or homemade guns, and firearms reserved exclusively for the Permanent Armed Forces. The decree also bans the use of armored vehicles adapted for shooting and restricts tactical accessories such as laser sights and night vision scopes. Penalties for violations include up to 30 years in prison. Additionally, the government seeks to curb online sales and the shipment of firearms and ammunition through parcel services. The reforms reflect a broader effort to reinforce state control over weaponry and combat illegal arms trafficking in Mexico.
