During the LA Marathon, a 14-year-old runner, who was among the 20,000-plus participants, passed out less than half a mile from the finish line. A Los Angeles Police Department sergeant stepped in to help the young runner cross the finish line. This year's marathon was declared a success by the Los Angeles Fire Department, which, along with other city and neighboring city agencies, provided safety and emergency services. No serious injuries were reported. The young runner, an eighth grader, now has two marathons under his belt.
