INSS to Reimburse 1.8 Million Retirees in Single Installments From July 24 With STF Approval

The Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social (INSS) in Brazil plans to begin reimbursing retirees and pensioners who were victims of unauthorized associative fee deductions starting July 24, 2025. This announcement was made by INSS President Gilberto Waller Júnior during a conciliation hearing at the Supreme Federal Court (STF), presided over by Minister Dias Toffoli. The reimbursement will be made in a single installment directly to the beneficiaries' accounts without intermediaries, with subsequent payment batches scheduled for August 9 and August 24. Approximately 1.8 million retirees and pensioners are expected to receive these repayments, which will include monetary correction.

The government has submitted a reimbursement plan to the STF, which includes voluntary adherence by beneficiaries and aims to ensure a prompt and efficient restitution of the improperly deducted funds. The Ministry of Previdência Social, represented by Minister Carlos Lupi, and the Attorney General's Office, represented by Jorge Messias, participated in discussions alongside the INSS and the Federal Public Ministry. The government is expected to release a detailed payment calendar soon, following the STF agreement. The repayments address fraudulent deductions that occurred between 2020 and 2025.
