Toyota has halted sales of three cars after submitting faulty data during pedestrian-safety tests. On June 10, Japan's transport ministry conducted on-site inspections of the headquarters of Honda and Mazda as part of investigations into vehicle test fraud involving five vehicle makers. The ministry's inspections came after massive cheating on vehicle certifications was discovered. Regulatory discrepancies in a number of Toyota cars were found to breach UN standards adopted by 62 countries and regions. Toyota, Mazda, Suzuki, and Yamaha were found to have submitted incorrect or manipulated test data when certifying their vehicles. These revelations have echoes of the emissions scandal that rocked Volkswagen in 2015.
