A 16th-century painting, 'Madonna and Child' by Antonio Solario, stolen from the Civic Museum of Belluno in Italy over 50 years ago, has resurfaced in Norfolk, England. The painting, acquired by the museum in 1872, was stolen in 1973 and later purchased by Baron de Dozsa, who took it to his home in eastern England. The painting is now in the possession of Barbara de Dozsa, the late baron's ex-wife. Despite its listing on Interpol's database of stolen art, she refuses to return it to the museum. The painting was identified as stolen when Barbara attempted to sell it through an auction house in 2017, leading to its temporary seizure by the Norfolk Constabulary. The police returned the painting to Barbara de Dozsa in 2020 after receiving no response from Italian authorities regarding the investigation. Christopher Marinello, a lawyer specializing in art recovery, has been trying to persuade her to return the painting, citing its cultural significance to Belluno and its value beyond monetary worth.
