On World Press Freedom Day, the global community reflects on the unprecedented loss of journalists in Gaza, marking it as the deadliest conflict for journalists in modern history. Over the past six months, more than 140 journalists have been killed in Gaza, surpassing the fatalities recorded in major historical conflicts like World War II and the Vietnam War. At least 135 journalists and 92 Palestinian journalists have been killed, with a total of 97 journalists reported dead thus far. The Committee to Protect Journalists highlighted that this is the highest number of journalist deaths in a conflict within such a short span in the last 30 years. Various sources, including WikiLeaks and respected journalists, have emphasized the severe risks faced by Palestinian journalists who continue to cover the ongoing military actions despite significant dangers.
