Recent U.S. airstrikes on Friday in Deir Ezzor, eastern Syria, have resulted in the deaths of several members of the Iranian-backed Fatemiyoun Brigade, including at least three commanders. Ali Hosseini, identified as a prominent figure and field commander within the militia, was among those killed. Other commanders, such as Muhammad Ali Akbari, an Afghan national with a mid-level leadership rank, Mohammad Reza Sadat Alavi, and Sayed Hamza Alawi, were also confirmed dead. The Fatemiyoun Brigade, an Afghan Shia militia, has been involved in the Syrian conflict on the side of the Assad regime since 2014. In a related development, a drone strike, reportedly originating from areas controlled by Iranian-backed militias west of the Euphrates River, targeted a Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) training base, killing at least six SDF members. The SDF, which includes U.S. troops, confirmed the casualties and injuries. This escalation follows the U.S. operation against Iranian positions and suggests a retaliatory cycle with potential risks for U.S. assets in the region. Additionally, the U.S. Air Force was mentioned in connection with the 'Soleimani Curse,' referring to the killing of Qassem Soleimani's right-hand man, Ali Hosseini. The strikes also resulted in the deaths of three other known Syrian militia members, 16 people in Iraq, mainly militants from the Iranian-backed Popular Mobilisation Units. A subsequent suicide drone attack on the al-Omar base, also home to U.S. troops, resulted in seven elite SDF fighters killed and 18 injured, with up to 20 wounded.
