In the context of the ongoing war in Ukraine and shifting global oil dynamics, tankers carrying Iranian oil are reportedly experiencing unimpeded passage through the Red Sea, past the Houthis, en route to Syria. Despite increased oil flows through the Suez Canal and the Red Sea since the conflict's onset, Houthi attacks in the region have largely spared oil and product tankers. The volume of petroleum moving through the Suez Canal has more than doubled since the war between Russia and Ukraine began. Market analysts note a significant rise in Russian crude oil tankers in the Red Sea, which are not expected to be targeted by the Houthis. According to Katona at Kpler, the Houthis have been precise in avoiding attacks on non-western oil tankers, including those from Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Russia. This selective approach by the Houthis in targeting oil infrastructure, which has thus far excluded Gulf neighbors and has been focused on bombing Israeli linked vessels, is believed to be contributing to the stabilization of oil prices.
Yemen’s Houthis have refrained from targeting their Gulf neighbours oil infrastructure even as they look to bomb Israeli linked vessels. Analysts say that’s keeping oil prices in check https://t.co/bjcefYDFIU
The Houthis have been tremendously precise in not hitting non-western oil tankers,” Katona, at Kpler, told MEE. “There are a lot of Saudi, Iraqi and Russian tankers in the Red Sea and the Houthis haven’t hit a single one” https://t.co/ZyqPsAoeWJ
The Red Sea has seen a huge upswing in oil tankers traversing its waterway, but many of them are carrying Russian crude that market analysts predict the Houthis won’t attack https://t.co/ACWDcKeTot
The Red Sea Crisis is coming at a really nice time given the breakdown of relations between Russia and Europe. Petroleum flows through the Suez Canal are more than twice what they were before the Russo-Ukrainian war began. https://t.co/rnoliwNIHR
Since the war in the Ukraine, a lot more oil flows have been redirected through the Suez Canal and Red Sea While Houthi attacks in the region have not hindered production and have not been directed, in large, at oil/product tankers just something to note. https://t.co/LsSvzjUiQD
[pretend you're surprised] 😲 Tankers carrying Iranian oil never get stopped, harassed, boarded or attacked while heading past the Houthis en route to Syria. It's just smooth sailing for them. https://t.co/5W4Xj3w6tV
