Ben Basat is the most senior Israeli officer to be killed in Gaza since the ground invasion. Greenberg, in a speech and interview, expressed determination for victory but was killed alongside 8 soldiers. The casualties occurred in the Shejaiya and Shujaeya neighborhoods of Gaza City.
