Israeli Members of Knesset (MKs) from opposite ends of the political spectrum are facing legal challenges related to allegations of assault. Far-left MK Ofer Cassif (@ofercass) is to be indicted for aggravated assault on a police officer, an incident that occurred in 2022. On the other side, far-right MK Almog Cohen of the Otzma Yehudit party is under investigation by the special investigations unit Lahav 433 for a suspicion of aggravated assault on three Arab detainees dating back to 2013, when he was serving in the police's special patrol unit. The case against Cohen was reopened following the emergence of a photo he posted on Facebook in 2012 with the detainees.
In 2012, three Arabs in Israel were beaten by police, but could not identify the officers, so the case was closed. In 2022, a far-right member of Israel's parliament posted a photo himself on FB with the detainees. The police have now reopened the case. https://t.co/bq0CrReNMk
