The Gaza Strip has been subjected to a near-total communications blackout for over a week, the longest since the conflict's onset and the 7th instance of such disruptions. Civilians and aid workers have been left without the means to call for help or coordinate humanitarian efforts. Israeli forces are accused of intentionally targeting Gaza's telecommunications to silence Palestinians. During the blackout, from January 12-18, 2024, at least 1,036 Palestinians were reported killed by the Ministry of Health. The blackout is seen as a tactic to conceal Israeli actions and maintain chronic impunity. As the blackout entered its 8th day, telecom operator Paltel announced that internet services are gradually being restored in Gaza.
