The International Atomic Energy Agency said on 4 July it has withdrawn its team of nuclear inspectors from Iran and that the personnel are en route to the agency’s headquarters in Vienna. The group had remained in Tehran throughout the recent fighting between Israel and Iran but was moved out after the security situation deteriorated, the agency stated.

The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the evacuation, said the inspectors left Iran by road and crossed into Armenia before continuing toward Austria. Their departure temporarily severs the UN watchdog’s on-site monitoring of Iran’s nuclear facilities, removing the last direct link between the agency and Tehran at a time when broader negotiations over Iran’s atomic program remain stalled.
