The United Nations has confirmed that envoys from 22 countries and representatives from approximately eight international institutions will attend the third Doha meeting on Afghanistan, scheduled for June 30 to July 1. The UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, Rosemary DiCarlo, described the meeting as a step towards integrating Afghanistan into the international community while ensuring it meets its global obligations. U.S. Special Representative for Afghanistan, Thomas West, and Special Envoy for Human Rights, Rina Amiri, will participate in the meeting. Prominent women, including notable figures from Afghanistan, have signed an open letter to the UN Secretary-General, demanding the active participation of women in the discussions. Over 500 women activists have urged the international community to take decisive action against the Taliban’s policies. Pakistani media reported that Pakistan will also participate in the meeting. The meeting is not intended to be an intra-Afghan dialogue or to legitimize the Taliban, according to UN spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric.
