The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced a significant change in the higher education system in India. Starting from the academic year 2024-25, Indian universities and higher education institutions will be allowed to admit students biannually, aligning with practices of foreign universities. This move is aimed at increasing the Gross Enrolment Ratio and better utilization of academic resources. UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar highlighted that this change would benefit students who miss the July-August admission session, providing them with another opportunity in January-February. The current regulations only allow for one academic session per year.
