The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced new guidelines allowing students with a 4-year undergraduate degree and at least 75% aggregate marks or an equivalent grade to directly pursue a PhD or appear for the National Eligibility Test (NET). UGC Chairman Jagadesh Kumar highlighted that this initiative is part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 aimed at strengthening the research ecosystem in universities.
