The Supreme Court of India has issued a notice to the Tamil Nadu government regarding the Enforcement Directorate's request to transfer the investigation of bribery allegations against an ED officer from the state's Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The court has asked the Tamil Nadu Police to present the material collected in the case and has also sought the state government's response on the ED's plea. Additionally, the Supreme Court has expressed concern over the potential for genuine investigations to be hindered by political vendetta and has requested both the ED and the Tamil Nadu government to propose a mechanism that incorporates best practices for investigations within a federal structure. In a separate matter, the Supreme Court has also sought the Centre's response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) challenging the current procedure for appointing the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India.
