Prime Minister Narendra Modi applauded the people of the Srinagar parliamentary constituency for the 'encouraging turnout' of 38%, which is more than double the 14.43% polling in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. The #Srinagar Lok Sabha constituency recorded a 36% voter turnout, the highest since 1998 when the insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir was at its peak. This was the first major electoral exercise in the Valley since the nullification of Article 370. The voter turnout in Srinagar had been declining since 1996 when the first elections were held in the region following the beginning of the insurgency. 'Polling yesterday was good because the people wanted to send a message to Delhi that the decision taken in 2019 and afterwards with regard to our land and state subjects and jobs are not acceptable to the people of Jammu and Kashmir,' said PDP. Srinagar voters spread cheer with the Lok Sabha seat recording the highest turnout since 1996.
