Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has held separate discussions with his Indian and Pakistani counterparts regarding the escalating tensions and ongoing military confrontations between India and Pakistan.
According to statements from the Saudi and Pakistani foreign ministries, the talks focused on efforts to de-escalate the situation and end military hostilities following recent Indian strikes on Pakistani air bases and Pakistan's subsequent retaliatory actions.
The Pakistani Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, briefed Prince Faisal on the current regional situation after Islamabad responded to Indian military strikes, which reportedly targeted the Nur Khan, Murid, and Shorkot air bases in Pakistan. Pakistan claims to have intercepted most of the attacks and launched retaliatory strikes on Indian military sites, including Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, targeting the S-400 missile system, Brahmos storage site, Pathan Kot, and Udhampur airfields.
Pakistan also claims a cyberattack disrupted 70% of India's electricity grid. The conflict has resulted in at least 48 deaths on both sides.
The latest round of conflict follows an attack in Pahalgam, Indian-administered Kashmir, for which India has blamed Pakistan. Both countries have reported casualties and have accused each other of violating airspace and conducting drone and missile strikes.
Prince Faisal emphasized Saudi Arabia's balanced relations with both India and Pakistan and reiterated the Kingdom's support for diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions in the region.
International actors, including US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the G7, and the United Kingdom, have called for restraint and urged both parties to engage in direct dialogue.
