Several Indian states have announced financial measures aimed at benefiting government employees, senior citizens, and the general public. In Rajasthan, senior citizens aged between 60 to 80 years are now eligible for a 50 percent discount on ordinary and express buses of the Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation. The Rajasthan government, led by CM Bhajanlal Sharma, also announced a cut in VAT on petrol and diesel by 2 percent and an increase in dearness allowance for employees and pensioners by 4 percent, effective from January 1, 2024. This hike brings the dearness allowance to 50 percent. Similarly, Assam and Odisha have announced a 4 percent dearness allowance hike for their government employees. The central government has raised the Dearness Allowance for its employees to 50 percent. Additionally, the reduction in petrol and diesel prices by Rs 2 per litre has been welcomed by the public and political figures, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah lauding the government's effort, while Congress leader Surendra Rajput criticized it as a diversion from corruption allegations.
