India is set to significantly expand its electronics manufacturing capabilities with the approval of three new semiconductor plants, involving investments totaling $15.2 billion by firms including Tata Group and CG Power. These projects aim to triple the country's electronics manufacturing to $300 billion, as part of India's ambition to become an electronics powerhouse. IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who also gave a masterclass on India's semiconductor ecosystem, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have emphasized the initiative's role in achieving tech self-reliance. The initiative, discussed by Rajoo Goel, Secretary General of ELCINA, is expected to position India among the top 5 semiconductor manufacturing nations by 2028, with investments in the domestic semiconductor space projected to increase fivefold to Rs 7.5 lakh crore.
