In a series of operations aimed at curbing illegal gold trafficking, Indian authorities have made significant seizures. The India Coast Guard (ICG) successfully seized 4.9 kilograms of foreign-origin gold off the Mandapam coast in Tamil Nadu. Concurrently, the Mumbai Customs Department, during a two-day operation on April 6-7, confiscated over 8.10 kilograms of gold valued at approximately Rs 4.81 crore in 12 cases. This gold was ingeniously concealed within the clothing and bodily cavities of passengers at Mumbai Airport, leading to the arrest of six individuals involved in the smuggling attempts.
