India Halts Civil Flights at 32 Airports to May 15 as Pakistan Closes Airspace

India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has ordered the suspension of civilian flight operations at up to 32 airports across northern and western India. Notices to Airmen (NOTAMs) issued on 9 May extend the shutdown through 14 May, while air routes within the Delhi and Mumbai Flight Information Regions will remain closed until 05:29 a.m. IST on 15 May. The Airports Authority of India said the measure is linked to heightened border tensions with Pakistan following India’s military operation dubbed “Operation Sindoor.” In a parallel move, Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority issued its own NOTAM closing the country’s entire airspace to all traffic from 03:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. local time on 10 May, with officials indicating the restriction could be prolonged if warranted by security conditions. The reciprocal closures halt most cross-border civil aviation between the two countries and force regional carriers to reroute or cancel services. Authorities in both nations have advised passengers to check with airlines for schedule updates.
