The Income Tax Department has frozen three-four bank accounts of the Congress party due to alleged financial irregularities. Former Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai stated that the Congress party had not paid income tax annually, leading to this action by the Income Tax Department. Former Maharashtra CM and Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan countered, mentioning an eight-year-old case over a Rs 16 lakh lapse reported a week late. The BJP claims the Congress party failed to deposit Rs 105 crore owed to the Income Tax Department for the 2017-18 period, having only deposited Rs 2.5 crore. Additionally, the Congress is accused of accepting a donation of Rs 14 lakhs in cash, violating the rule against political parties accepting cash donations over Rs 20,000. The BJP denies involvement in the freezing of the Congress's bank accounts, attributing the actions to the party's failure to comply with Income Tax rules.
