India's Meteorological Department (IMD) has clarified that recent record-high temperatures reported in Delhi and Nagpur were erroneous due to sensor malfunctions. On May 29, a weather station in Delhi's Mungeshpur reported a temperature of 52.9°C, which was later found to be 3°C higher than the actual temperature due to a sensor error. Similarly, on May 30, Nagpur's automatic weather station recorded a temperature of 56°C, but this reading was also incorrect due to a faulty sensor. Another station in Sonegaon recorded 54°C, and Ramdaspeth reported 52.2°C, both of which were also erroneous. The IMD has confirmed these errors and is taking corrective measures. Earth Sciences Minister Kiren Rijiju has addressed these inaccuracies, emphasizing the importance of accurate data collection, especially during extreme heat conditions.
