G7 Calls for India-Pakistan De-Escalation as Missile Strikes Hit Bases, 77 Drones Downed, IMF Approves $1B for Pakistan

The Group of Seven (G7) nations have called for immediate de-escalation and maximum restraint from both India and Pakistan amid rising military tensions. The G7 also urged the two countries to engage in direct dialogue to reach a peaceful resolution. The appeals from the G7 follow a series of cross-border attacks. Pakistan has accused India of launching missile strikes on three of its air bases—Nur Khan in Rawalpindi, PAF Base Murid in Chakwal district, and a base in Shorkot. Pakistan's military stated that most missiles were intercepted and no air assets were damaged. Pakistan also reported that India fired ballistic missiles from Adampur, with some landing in Amritsar. India has stated that its strikes targeted nine sites in Pakistan described as 'terrorist infrastructure,' in retaliation for an April 22 attack in Indian-administered Kashmir that killed 26 tourists. India holds Pakistan responsible for the attack, a claim Islamabad denies. Both countries have reported downing each other's drones and aircraft. Pakistan claims to have shot down five Indian jets and 77 Indian drones, while India reported destroying a Pakistani air defense system in Lahore. Civilian casualties have occurred on both sides, including deaths near the Line of Control. The conflict has disrupted civilian life, leading to the closure of airports and schools, and affecting air traffic in the region. Amid the tensions, the International Monetary Fund approved a $1 billion disbursement to Pakistan, and the Pakistan Stock Exchange rebounded sharply. The international community, including the G7, has emphasized the risk to regional stability and continues to call for restraint and dialogue.
